BERLIN ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCY (BERLIN AiR)

The BERLIN AiR offers selected filmmakers the opportunity to gain international experience and forge industry contacts. They bring together artists and film professionals from Berlin-Brandenburg and partner countries.

The stay in Berlin is organised and guided by the NIPKOW PROGRAMM, which also oversees the curriculum of each of the selected residents of the ten Medienboard funded programmes. The residencies work on a reciprocal basis with Hong Kong, Israel, Mexico, Paris and Rome and are one-directional, to Berlin only, with Lebanon, Mumbai, Palestine, Sub-Saharan Africa and Turkey. The residency covers the travel costs (one economy return trip), accommodation, a monthly allowance and professional support while in Berlin or in the partner country.

The residency Berlin - Guanajuato enables a filmmaker from Berlin-Brandenburg to live and work for two months in Guanajuato (Mexico). In return, a filmmaker from Guanajuato comes to Berlin for three months. In this way, both receive a unique opportunity to develop their skills and become familiar with the other country’s film industry. The filmmakers from Berlin-Brandenburg will have the unique opportunity to get to know Guanajuato and thus Mexico in all its many facets, and will gain insight into the country’s media and film scene. The programme is oriented toward the needs of the fellowship recipients. Representatives of Guanajuato’s film and media industry and cultural institutions are available to serve as mentors. The stay is organised by the Guanajuato International Film Festival and is supported by the Goethe Institut Mexico. The fellowship covers travel costs and accommodation and additionally provides a monthly cash allowance.
